The following information will provide you with a more detailed explanation of our Home Care Service and relates to some of our more frequently asked questions:

What Kind of Nurse do I need?

There are three main types of nurses: Registered, Enrolled and Assistants. The level of care that is required will determine that type of nurse that you need.

Registered Nurses

This is the highest level of nurse. This nurse will have at least three years training and will be Registered with the NSW Nurses registration Board. These nurses will normally be needed when there is a high level of care required. Some indications of this would be:

  • If you require clinical observations documented ie blood pressure to be checked daily
  • If you require daily injections.
  • If you need assistance with a colostomy.
  • If you are undergoing radiation/Chemotherapy
  • If you require daily physio & pressure area care.
  • If you have a cathertar that may need irrigating"
  • If daily care needs to be discussed with your Doctor.
  • If you require daily changes of sterile dressings.
  • If you have a tracheostomy that requires suctioning.
  • If you require intermittent oxygen at home.
  • If you are unable to administer your own medications.

Enrolled Nurses

This type of nurse requires registration with the NSW Nurses Board and has completed a one year course. Enrolled nurses may perform the following duties:

  • Clinical Observations ie. Blood Pressures
  • Pressure Area Care
  • Bowel Care
  • Assistance with daily living activities.

Assistant Nurses

Assistant nurses are also known as carers and they can assist you with the following:

  • Daily living activities such as showering, dressing.
  • Assisting you with your meals.
  • Assisting you with light house chores such as shopping and hanging out the washing.
  • Assisting you with the preparation of meals.
  • Helping you in and out of bed.
  • Helping you to the bathroom.
  • Accompany you to social events or outings.

When can I have somebody to help me?

It is entirely up to you when one of our staff comes to help you. Our service and staff are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. For our staff there is;

  • A minimum booking of 4 hours.
  • Any number of hours from 4-24hours.
  • Any day of the week.

Some clients may need help at certain times of the day every day or a particular day every week. You can choose when you would like somebody to be there.

Sleep Overs

In some cases, staff will be required to undertake 'Sleepovers'. In general, nurses will not be providing active care during these periods but will be there in case of a patient emergency.

Holiday Periods

Care can be provided to cover periods when the main family members are on holiday. Care can also be provided to accompany a client on holidays.

How much notice do I need to give?

You can call us anytime to book a staff member. The more notice we have, then we are more likely to be able to send you somebody. Ideally 48 hours notice is generally required.

We do try to send the same nurse to the same clients, we are able to allocate our staff to certain clients if we know what your needs are in advance.

If you find you need somebody at short notice, we will endevour to get one of our staff members to you as quickly as possible.

How much does it cost?

Our rates vary depending on the type of nurse and the time of day and the day of the week. We have included a rate sheet at the back of this information pack.

In accordance with government legislation our staffs rate increases with each year of experience obtained, as such our rates also increases. The rate sheet enclosed will provide you with the applicable hourly rate.

Our rates allow for the nurses wage, superannuation, taxes, insurances and our fee.

Is there a Health fund Rebate?

It is difficult for us to provide a direct answer on this as this will mainly depend upon the type of healthcare cover of the individual. Before going ahead with any service it is probably best to contact your health provider to find out if any assistance will be offered.

Are we connected to Veterans Affairs?

At this stage we are not connected to Veterans Affairs and are unable to provide any of the forms for you to sign.

Due to the volume of enquiries we have received regarding this we are now in the process of seeing if we can establish a business relationship with the DVA.

All clients will be notified immediately as soon as there are any changes regarding this.

Do I have to pay for this Service?

Yes. Unfortunately we cannot offer this service free of charge.

The rates charged depend upon the time of day/week and the staff member you choose.

For convenience, our company provides a full and detailed invoice when invoicing for staff used.

Invoices are sent on a weekly basis. Copies of our rates and our terms and conditions have been included in this information. Each invoice will provide details of the date and time the staff member was there. The staff members name and the applicable hourly rate. The invoice also shows the amounts before and after GST.

Payment can be made by cheque or electronically.
